Ian

One example of the effectiveness of wikis for me personally was my excitement at finding the vast amount of background material available in Wikipedia on the HBO series The Sopranos. Not having HBO, I've come late to this series, and I'm renting DVDs at the local video store. As I plow through a couple of episodes a night (hey, it's addictive!) I was losing track of characters and plotlines. I was amazed that I could cut n' paste 100+ pages of reference material from Wikipedia and gain insight into every aspect of the show.

My gratitude is to the fans of the show who've been such great 'community stewards' over the past 7 years.

There's no need for me to buy a book on the topic at all.
