I’m always on the look out for project-management tools to help me keep my to-dos in order and projects organized. I’ve recently been experimenting with three Web-based applications that have promise: Basecamp, Backpack and the Ta-da list. In planning my wedding a few months ago, my fiance and I experimented mostly with Backpack, a cool organizational tool that helped us keep our cake and floral commitments in check. We later decided that a wiki would suit our needs best, but had I known that “the hottest hacker on earth” was behind Backpack maybe I would have given the application a second go.
David Heinemeir Hansson, the first Google-O’Reilly hacker of the year (2005), is the brains behind Ruby on Rails, the elegant, open-source framework for using the programming language Ruby. Hansson, who was recently awarded the hottest hacker distinction by WIRED, used Ruby on Rails to program Basecamp, Backpack and the Ta-da list. Keep an eye out for Hansson. He’s on a mission to remake the way Web sites are built from the code-up.
Hottest hacker in more ways than one, apparently!
